In 2017, I contributed to a project led by my colleague Kimbriell Kelly, called Fired/Rehired — in which we acquired thousands of pages of police records in order to examine what happens to so-called “bad apple” officers. In hundreds of cases, police officers who had been previously fired for misconduct were able to get their jobs back.
